July 2019

Did you know all 12 astrological seasons have a unique purpose and celestial dance? For instance, if Taurus’ fixed earth brought you closer to your sensual pleasures, and Gemini’s mutable air taught you how to compartmentalize the abundance you’ve acquired, what can we make out of Cancer? This moon-ruled season is all about nurturing your inner world and finding a place within yourself to call home. Now, given that Cancer is in fact my natal Sun sign, I’m going to take this a step further, because it’s my birthday month, so why not? For starters, this cardinal water sign is much deeper than the way its portrayed via Western astrology. Cancer is both the Moon mother and the wise crone. Both are a symbol of the divine feminine, along with the intuition, mysticism, and witchcraft that’s been passed down from generation to generation. And in the end, it is part of Cancer’s celestial duty to nurture its surroundings via sacred rituals and at-home remedies, inherited from those who passed. Needless to say, there’s a lot more to this water sign than you think, but I digress.

Cancer season is a time for looking inward and doing what makes you feel emotionally secure, but that might be a bit challenging this year, considering the intensity of the eclipses headed our way. There’s no escaping the nodes of the moon, and in this particular case, the essence of Cancer-Capricorn, but I’ll get to that in just a moment. On July 1, Mars enters cinematic Leo, and given Mars’ red-hot passion, the warrior planet will naturally thrive when traveling through a rambunctious fire sign. On July 3, enchanting Venus will join the sun in intuitive Cancer, and this empathic energy flow will naturally reflect onto our relationships, spending habits, and values. Moreover, curious Mercury will station retrograde in Leo shortly after, and will eventually reach Cancer’s watery territory for a second round. *Second time’s a charm, I promise.* On July 8, Chiron “the wounded healer” will also station retrograde in warrior-like Aries, just days before what could seem like a cathartic full moon partial lunar eclipse in Capricorn. But luckily for us, the sun enters its home sign Leo on July 22, where charming Venus will make her dazzling debut on July 27, before the new moon in the same sign on July 31.

Lots going on this month, huh? Let’s take a closer look at these eclipses. For those of you who aren’t familiar with eclipses, they are powerful lunations that bring life-changing events. This could either be a new beginning or a much-needed ending, but all in all, this energy is here to help us take action we never considered possible. This eclipse season is about self reflection, emotional processing, and ancestral healing. Cancer is a symbol of our inner world and emotional foundation. It’s time we learn how to nurture ourselves, despite the previously-set structures of our upbringing. And with the sun, moon, and North Node in Cancer directly opposing Saturn, Pluto, and the South Node in Capricorn, we are finally tuning into what matters most: our emotional truth and the family karma deeply embedded in our spiritual DNA. The South Node in Capricorn is asking us to let go of the inhumane social conditioning that has unconsciously tainted our hearts, while the North Node in Cancer leads us towards self-love, and that which brings us emotional security.
